Fresno State Career Connections

Fresno State Career Connections (FSCC), is a free, powerful online tool that gives Fresno State students expert advice from alumni, parents and other members of the vast Fresno State community. FSCC helps you to easily and seamlessly obtain career-related advice on career paths and industries, on your résumé, and on your interviewing skills from the FSCC network.

Login

Using your Fresno State email address, you can register as an Advisee. Once registered, you will receive an automated message with login instructions. After completing the registration process you can log in at FresnoState.Evisors.com using your Fresno State student email address (note: You must use your student email address. The system will not accept any other email).

Browse

Once signed in to FSCC you can find consultants according to function, industry, employer, service, location, university, or language. There is also a keyword search at the top of the page, which searches the entire profiles of consultants, including past jobs, employers, and internships. Once you have identified a consultant, book a consultation.

Get Advice

 

FSCC is completely free to use for all students, and can be used as often as you like. Whether you're a first or second year student researching how alumni are using their degrees so you can make a more informed decision about your major, or a 3rd or 4th year student wanting to start building your network and getting advice on job preparation, or a first year graduate continuing to build your network.

  1. FSCC is completely free to use, and can be used as often as you like.
  2. After you create your account you will receive 10 credits (these are free, there is no cost) to set up one-on-one connections for career conversations (one credit), mock interviews (two credits), or résumé critiques (one credit). You can request additional credits from fresnostate@evisors.com.
  3. Prepare for consultations by reviewing networkinginterview, and résumé writing guides. You will write introductory messages when setting up your connections and thank-you messages at the completion of your connections. Review our examples for reference.
  4. For additional preparation and insights, explore the vast library of webinars offered free of charge (to access, you must create your account first).
  5. Talk directly to Fresno State alumni, parents and friends about their experience in your career fields of interest.

 Student Registration

Scheduling the Career Conversation

  1. When scheduling you will propose three 30-minute meeting times. If the consultant is available during one of those times, they will accept and your consultation will be scheduled. If the consultant is not available, they may choose to propose three additional times or they may decline the invitation. You will be notified as soon as the consultant accepts or declines.
  2. You must write an introductory message and you have the option of uploading a résumé or another form of documentation that highlights your professional and academic background.
  3. Review the Career Conversation: Questions to Ask for how to effectively conduct a career conversation, including types of questions you can ask the consultant.

Connecting to Your Career Conversation

  1. Both parties are sent a confirmation email that includes a list of phone numbers (users select one suited for their locale) and conference code.
  2. Ten (10) minutes before the consultation is scheduled the codes will be live. Once both parties call in and enter their code, they will be connected and the consultation will begin. 

During the Career Conversation

  1. Be prepared to briefly introduce yourself professionally. You may attach your résumé prior to the consultation for them to get to know you.
  2. Prior to your session, think about your purpose for talking with a particular consultant. Would you like to learn more about the industry, the company, the career path, etc.? For a list of questions to ask click here.
  3. Respect the consultant's time commitment by planning and preparing topics of discussion. Prepare specific, intelligent, and productive questions that can guide your discussion.
  4. Remember to keep the conversation professional. Do not ask personal questions or ask a consultant directly for job placement or internship assistance.
  5. Strive to be a receptive and active listener.

After the Career Conversation

  1. Show appreciation for the time and assistance given by the consultant by sending a follow up thank-you message. Note that you must do this within 24 hours of the consultation, while your meeting place is still active. It is also required if you wish to continue using this service.

    After your consultation, we also encourage you to send the consultant a request to connect on LinkedIn. This is a great way to begin building your network (if you haven't created a LinkedIn profile, it only takes a few minutes).

Resume Critiques 

Have Fresno State alumni, parents and friends who are company and industry insiders critique your résumé. Critiques include both inline recommendations and high-level advice. Note that you are free to submit a curriculum vitae (CV) instead of a résumé for review.

Scheduling Your Résumé Critique

  1. When scheduling you will propose three 30-minute meeting times. If the consultant is available during one of those times, they will accept and your consultation will be scheduled. If the consultant is not available, they may choose to propose three additional times or they may decline the invitation. You will be notified as soon as the consultant accepts or declines.
  2. You must write an introductory message about your interest in a résumé critique and include relevant information that will help the consultant to prepare. For a sample introductory message click here.
  3. You must upload a résumé and may include additional documentation such as a cover letter or job description.

Connecting to Your Résumé Critique

Practice for your future interviews with Fresno State alumni and parents who are company and industry insiders, who can coach you on how to land the job through a practice interview.

Scheduling Your Mock Interview

  1. When scheduling you will propose three 60-minute meeting times. If the consultant is available during one of those times, they will accept and your consultation will be scheduled. If the consultant is not available, they may choose to propose three additional times or they may decline the invitation. You will be notified as soon as the consultant accepts or declines.
  2. You must write an introductory message about your interest in a mock interview and include relevant information that will help the consultant to prepare. For a sample introductory message click here.
  3. You must upload a résumé and may include additional documentation such as a cover letter or job description.
