Fresno State's Department of English supports the largest number of employees within the College of Arts and Humanities. More than 100 people work with us every day to serve the students in our degree programs and to produce professional publications and events.

Instructional Student Assistant (Tutor) — Writing Center

Description: The Writing Center specializes in tutoring writing based on current methods and best practices. Tutors work with students in small groups and individually to help student writers develop their writing skills and to provide supportive community. Once hired, tutors will receive training and continue learning new tutoring methods in a required class that meets every week.

Student Assistant (Editorial Assistant) — Philip Levine Prize

Description: Editorial Assistant duties will include simple to complex tasks that support the Philip Levine Prize for Poetry book contest and the graduate course English 242, Literary Editing and Publishing, taught by Prof. Mai Der Vang. This will include: database management, logging and assigning manuscripts, spreadsheet tracking and management, monitoring of student reviewer progress, helping to guide and organize the editorial process, instructing less-experienced students in working with Submittable, and assisting Prof. Vang and office staff with other aspects of running the contest.

Assistant Professor — English Department

Description: The Department of English seeks applicants for a tenure‐track position in U.S. Literature, with an emphasis in environmental colonialism and/or social justice. Preference will be given to candidates whose research focuses on the pre-1900 era. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate students, serve on M.A. thesis committees, conduct scholarly research, and engage in service activities.
