Dr. Ruth Y. Jenkins
Dr. Ruth Y. Jenkins is a Professor of English, and she serves as the undergraduate adviser for English majors. She joined the department in 1988.
With teaching interests in nineteenth-century British literature, as well as feminist and cultural theory, Dr. Jenkins has taught courses on Victorian literature, including major authors and genres; the spiritual crisis; empire; and children’s literature. She has also taught writing theory, intro to literary analysis, adaptation, and critical and literacy theory.
Dr. Jenkins is the author of Victorian Children's Literature: Experiencing Abjection, Empathy, and the Power of Love, published in 2016 by Palgrave Macmillan. She is also the author of Reclaiming Myths of Power: The Victorian Spiritual Crisis and Women Writers, published in 1985 by Bucknell University Press.
She has published articles on British literature and culture, children’s literature, and feminist, cultural, and writing theory in journals such as MELUS, Lion and the Unicorn, Children’s Literature Association Quarterly, Writing on the Edge, Weber Studies, English Language Notes, and the Minnesota Review.
