Hum 118 Folklore in Contemporary Life:

The Portuguese author, illustrator and graphic designer Catarina Sobral will conduct a workshop with Fresno State’s Portuguese Language students. The recipient of the International Award for Illustration (2014) has authored 13 picture books and illustrated 10 of them, published in different languages in several countries, such as Portugal, Brazil, Spain, France, Germany, UK, Sweden, Poland, China and Japan. She has also directed the animated short film “Ratio Between Two Volumes” and, recently, she wrote and did the art direction of the stage play for children titled “Impossible.”
In the workshop conducted by Sobral at Fresno State, we will get to know her work process and discuss her aesthetic choices and sources of inspiration, after which the students will be able to write a story in Portuguese based on her illustrations. The event will take place on Monday, December 2 at HML 2132. This event is sponsored by Camões, I.P. and the Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures, with support from the Portuguese Beyond Borders Institute. All welcome.
