A Statement from the Department of Theatre and Dance.

We stand with our Black colleagues, students, alumni, families, and patrons at this time to repudiate racism in all its forms and to raise our voices against state-sponsored racial violence that continues to result in the death of Black people around the country. We further recognize that the legacy of this nation should no longer be that of abuse, violence, and murder against African Americans by those foresworn to uphold human and civil rights for all. Our solidarity extends to all Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) who face, in the current climate, heightened intolerance, aggression, and stigmatization.

The valuable lives of Rayshard Brooks, George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Tamir Rice, Philando Castile, Eric Garner, Sandra Bland, Michael Brown — only a few of the recent victims — must not be forgotten.

As members of the Theatre and Dance faculty and staff, we are committed to a society where all public officials, including members of the law enforcement community, are held accountable for advancing the well-being of the people they serve. We believe in the power of higher education, particularly the arts, to lead the social transformation we need.

This is a call to action.

We will continue uplifting the stories and voices of communities of color, but moving forward, we must also commit to examining our own practices, having the uncomfortable conversations, and making any necessary changes to create a more just and equitable department.

Welcome to the Department of Theatre and Dance

At California State University, Fresno, Theatre and Dance students work side-by-side with faculty and staff to create exciting and dynamic productions. Each student enjoys a great deal of individual attention from the faculty and staff, and through this close collaboration, students not only develop their talents but also learn to work well under pressure as part of a team.
