Customized Group Programs

Customized ESL Programs

The AEI offers customized programs to cohorts of students from partner institutions in order to provide them with the opportunity to live in the U.S., study English at an American university, and experience American culture and university life.

 A prospective group can choose from one of two options:

1. Semi-customized program, in which partner institution students enroll in standard AEI courses and receive customized out-of-class academic support and cultural activities; or
2. Fully customized program, in which partner institution students take an exclusive combination of classes together, which may include a specialized, themed elective course such as Business English. 

AEI can provide short-term, semester, or year-long content-based courses. Specialized courses can focus on reading, writing, listening, speaking, pronunciation, and subject-specific vocabulary. Programs are designed to fit the needs of students attending in a group. 

These customized programs are based on the needs expressed by universities or agencies organizing group visits and typically would include the following features:

• Proficiency assessment of the starting point of learner(s)
• Short term (less than 8 weeks) or semester-long*
• Weekly cultural excursions and social activities
• Minimum of 10 participants**
• Development of courses to fit groups’ needs and interests
• Delivery and modification of program through ongoing assessment of learner progress
• Final assessment for how well participants met learning outcomes of the program
• Post-program check-ins’ and tune-ups as needed
• Individually priced

*For custom programs whose students enter the US on a tourist visa, classroom hours cannot exceed 16 hours per week. The AEI can issue an I-20 for special programs that are at least 18 ESL classroom hours per week and are scheduled according to the calendar of our Intensive English Program or 6-week summer programs. If the schedule of your custom program does not match these schedules, an I-20 for full-time study may still be possible if we are provided with at least 9 months' advance notice.

**For groups with 10 or fewer participants, the total cost of the program is divided by the actual number of students participating in the program.

Custom Program Successes

For almost 50 years, the AEI has partnered with many organizations to create custom English programs for their students or employees. Below is a sample of some of our successful partnerships:
