Exercise Science
Starting Fall 2020, all freshmen interested in Exercise Science will need to apply
to the Pre-Health Program. Upon successful completion of the Pre-Health Program, students
can apply to Kinesiology - Exercise Science. More information is available here - https://www.fresnostate.edu/chhs/acdc/pre-health.html
The Exercise Science Option should be the option of choice for the student interested in employment as a fitness instructor, strength and conditioning coach, worksite health promotion coordinator, or any similar field. This option will also prepare students for graduate study in the areas of exercise physiology, biomechanics, health promotion, and fitness and wellness.
The Exercise Science Option is also an ideal choice for those students wanting to prepare for admission to advanced clinical programs. The Exercise Science Option can enable students to fulfill prerequisites, while at the same time obtaining a Bachelor's degree. Many students in the option are seeking admission to clinical programs, such as, physical therapy, occupational therapy, chiropractic, physician assistant, and medical school.
Marketability and advancement within these professions can be enhanced by additional certification through such organizations as the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), and the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). Completion of the degree in the Exercise Science Option is designed to prepare students to successfully complete most of these certification processes.
A limited number of internships are available for qualified Exercise Science Option students interested in cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, worksite health promotion, and strength and conditioning.
Please visit the Fresno State online catalog for Exercise Science for additional information.
