A guiding force for the 'New California'

With agriculture in the spotlight more than ever before, the Jordan College enrollment has doubled in size the last decade and provides a record +2,500 students with a quality, hands-on education in the nation's leading and most diverse agricultural area.

The Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology's seven departments offers outstanding programs to prepare leaders in the traditional areas of agriculture, including animal science, plant science, agricultural education, viticulture and agricultural business.

We also offer distinguished programs in areas uniquely related to agriculture, including industrial technology, food science and nutrition, enology, child development, family science and fashion merchandising.

Emphasizing student, faculty and industry research partnerships

Jordan Ag Research Center - honors cohort 3Made possible by a generous gift from the Bud and Dee Jordan family, the $24.5 million Jordan Agricultural Research Center is the first of its kind on a CSU campus.

Designed to change and grow with the latest scientific needs, the 30,000-foot facility opened in 2016 to link agriculture, science, mathematics and engineering students and faculty with industry leaders to nurture a cohesive research environment.

Hands-on experience 

Almond BloomOur 1,000-acre on-campus University Agricultural Laboratory gives Jordan College students, classes and faculty unparalleled access to the nation’s most productive and diversified agricultural area through study, research and work experience.

The on-campus animal units (beef cattle, dairy, swine, poultry, quarter horses, sheep) are managed 24/7 by students, staff and faculty. The UAL also includes table, raisin and wine grape vineyards, tree fruit and nut orchards, vegetable and row crops (that produce our state-wide renowned sweet corn), a horticulture unit, greenhouse and tissue culture laboratory).

Fresh student-made products from these units and our award-winning Fresno State Winery, dairy, creamery and food processing centers are available year-round at our Gibson Farm Market on campus. 

The UAL’s 22 working enterprises also host 80 class sections from our different departments and utilize 130 students who work approximately 80,000 hours each year. The orchards and vineyards also all utilize drip irrigation technology that showcase the latest industry advances often tied to partnerships created by our campus irrigation research centers (more campus farm info).

Support endowments in memory of Viticulture and Enology Department founder

Petrucci pictureOn December 27, 2016 the Jordan College and Ag One lost a dear friend and mentor, Dr. Vincent E. Petrucci, at the age of 91.

The Fresno State professor emeritus of viticulture will be remembered as a wonderful man who inspired and trained generations of young people that work in the grape industry around the world. He began his 45-year Fresno State career when he started the viticulture program in 1948 and later oversaw its research center before retiring in 1993 (career accomplishments).

Charting a new direction

President Joseph Castro, student Mala To, Dean Sandra WitteWith the recent naming of Jordan College Sandra Witte and Fresno State President Joseph Castro, Fresno State is committed to expanding its offerings to agricultural students and the San Joaquin Valley.

The Jordan College's emphasis on providing students with innovative and career-advancing experiences is reflected in recent reports by the President's Commission on the Future of Agriculture and Water Task Force.
