Industrial Technology students take honors at poster contest

(February 13, 2015) – Three students from the Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology claimed honors in poster competitions at the section meeting of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers on Wednesday in Tulare.

In the graduate student contest, Fresno State’s Vishnu Vardhan Vijayan (Tamilnadu, India) and Rahul Ranjan (Bihar, India) placed first and second, respectively.

Vijayan’s project focused on global positioning system guidance for center pivot irrigation systems, and Ranjan’s poster detailed a carbon foot print calculator for greenhouse gas emissions for pistachio farming.

In the undergraduate contest, senior Frank Baggiolini (Fresno / Fresno Christian HS) placed second with a project focused on orchard and vineyard removal protocol in the Central Valley.

Senior Joshua Ornellas (Hanford / Hanford HS) competed in the same contest with a poster comparing the design and water conservation among California irrigation systems.

First place in the undergraduate poster competition went to Cal Poly for its tractor pull entry in the annual international ASABE 1/4 scale student design competition.

The winner from each contest received a $250 prize, and second place received $100.

The quartet of Fresno State industrial technology honorees were among 24 students from Fresno State who attended the meeting in conjunction with the World Ag Expo.
