Interdisciplinary Minor in Italian Studies (starting Fall 2020)
The Minor in Italian Studies strives to enrich the life experiences of students and
connect them with our local community through courses on campus, study abroad education,
service-learning opportunities, and cultural activities. Open to students in all majors,
this program emphasizes the contributions of Italian culture to global innovation
in all human endeavors.

Lower-division courses in Italian (ITAL 1A, 1B) (8 units)
Upper-division courses in Italian (ITAL 100 and another Italian upper-division course) (6 units)

Note: The Italian Studies Minor also requires a 2.0 GPA and 6 upper-division units in
residence.

Beginning course in conversational and written Italian. Not open to those with two
or more years of high school Italian credit.

Prerequisite: ITAL 1A recommended.
This course will explore a variety of topics linked to the Italian culture and its
influence on the United States through films and literature in Italian and in English.

ITAL 160T. Selected Topics in Italian Studies (3)
Topics chosen from Italian literature (genre, themes, movements, particular authors),
from Italian culture or civilization, or from Italian cinema. Taught in English. Repeatable

This interdisciplinary course, taught in English, offers an introductory view of Italian
culture and economy through their most representative aspects: food culture, art,
music, fashion, hospitality, and agriculture. Students will also be engaged in exciting
group activities, workshops, excursions, and field trips in and around the beautiful
city of Florence, famous for its art, food, and fashion.
