College Level Examination Program (CLEP)

Depending on your college's CLEP policy, satisfactory scores on CLEP exams may earn you college credits.

California State University, Fresno awards up to 6 units of credit for successfully completed CLEP examinations. Such credit is applied to the total units required for the baccalaureate degree, but it is not applied to the General Education requirement. It is the responsibility of the student to check with the appropriate department to determine whether it accepts CLEP credit. This should be done prior to taking the CLEP exam.

CLEP exams are offered only as computer-based tests by appointment only.

Test Fee: You must go to www.collegeboard.com to register and pay for the CLEP exam. They will issue you a voucher that you bring with you on the day you set up to take the exam. Effective July 1, 2017 the exam fee will be $85.00.

English Placement Test & Entry Level Math (EPT/ELM)

The Entry Level Mathematics (ELM) exam and English Placement Test (EPT) are no longer required for freshmen entering Fresno State. The CSU system has officially stopped utilizing the EPT/ELM exams as a measure of admission to a University.

General Records Examination (GRE)

GRE - CBT

The GRE (general) is a fully computer-based test (CBT). The Professional Examination Services office at the California State University, Fresno campus is an Educational Testing Services (ETS) testing site.

Appointments are available:

Exam dates are ONLY available with our office on a month to month basis.

All exam fees are paid at the time you schedule your appointment. The fees are as follows:

The appointment time for the exam is 4.5 hours.

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

The ibt TOEFL is a fully computer-based test (CBT). Professional Examination Services at the California State University, Fresno campus is an Educational Testing Services (ETS) exam site.

The Professional Examination Services site has a 6 seat computer lab that administers the ibt TOEFL. To schedule an appointment for the ibt TOEFL, you must go to www.toefl.org.

All exam fees are paid at the time you schedule your appointment.

The ibt TOEFL is $190.00 (check website: www.toefl.org for any updates on exam fees).

There is a rescheduling fee for the ibt TOEFL. For the ibt TOEFL, the rescheduling and cancellation policy is that you must call ETS (1-800-967-1100) no later than ten business days prior to your scheduled appointment or the entire test fee is forfeited. To reschedule an appointment for any of the computer-based tests, call ETS (1-800-967-1100). To cancel an appointment, call 1-800-GO-TOEFL (1-800-468-6335) or go online to www.toefl.org for more details.

The appointment time for the exam is 4.5 hours.

Local students taking classes or training through other colleges and institutions by correspondence or other long-distance methods often are required to take exams. Professional Examination Services agrees to provide supervision and a secure exam environment for those  computer based exams.

Usually this involves a correspondence or online class through a university, but various types of organizations make use of this service. Our exam site has proctored exams for institutions around the country, and welcomes international organizations as well.
