Work Study 101

Federal Work-Study is federal money that you earn by working at a part-time, work-study eligible job. You have to have financial need to be eligible for work-study awards. Make sure to submit your FAFSA as early as possible and mark "yes" to the question about being interested in work-study!

Is this your first time using work-study?

  • You'll want to visit HireFresnoState for job listings – This is where you'll find the instructions to apply for positions that interest you!
  • When hired and before you start working:
    • Go to the Financial Aid Office to obtain the "Work Study Job Referral" form
    •  You'll receive an email from HR, you'll want to click the link to complete your I-9
    • Go to the Payroll Office to provide your original social security card and photo ID for processing.

Did you use work-study last academic year and were awarded again this year?

  • If you're staying with the same job, you'll just want to work with your employer to get the necessary paperwork handled. You'll also need to come by the Financial Aid Office before you start working and obtain the "Work Study Job Referral" form for the new academic year.
  • If you're interested in finding a new/different work-study job, you'll want to visit HireFresnoState for job listings – This is where you'll find the instructions to apply for positions that interest you! Once you're hired, you'll work with your employer to get the necessary paperwork handled. You'll also need to come by the Financial Aid Office before you start working and obtain the "Work Study Job Referral" form for the new academic year.

Other important work-study information:

  • You'll want to check with your employer for time sheet due dates
  • Payday is the 15th of each month – Checks are available through direct deposit or the Cashier Windows in the South Lobby of the Joyal Administration building.
