The Richter Center is here to help you have successful community service experiences that enrich your education. By taking the time to serve the community you not only gain invaluable experiences and skills, but you also improve the world around you. There are endless opportunities to serve and the Richter Center can help you find a service project that is just right for you, whether it be to gain job skills, explore career fields, fulfill a course requirement, or simply because you want to serve.
There are several ways to locate a service site in the local community. Visit the Online Community Service Opportunities Fair which is hosted bi-annually by the Richter Center. The fair is both an in-person and online opportunity for students and local community benefit organizations to come together in a mutually beneficial way.
There are many resources for students to connect with and learn more about service opportunities in the state, local region and nationally. Below are a few additional resources to get you started on your search.
AmeriCorps is a program providing its members with opportunities to serve through a network of partnerships with local and national nonprofit groups. AmeriCorps members address critical needs in communities across the country. Service opportunities range from tutoring underprivileged children and fighting illiteracy, to improving health services and cleaning parks and streams. AmeriCorps
The mission of Lead California is to build the collective commitment and capacity of colleges, universities and communities to advance civic and community engagement for a healthy, just, and democratic society.
The CSU Chancellor's Office Center for Community Engagement promotes the collaboration between higher education institutions and their larger communities (local, regional/state, national, global) for the mutually beneficial exchange and production of knowledge and resources in a context of partnership and reciprocity.
This program is available to fund students who serve with participating nonprofit agencies, schools or government organizations served by Fresno State. Students can earn up to $1,935.00
The mission of the Corporation for National and Community Service is to improve lives, strengthen communities, and foster civic engagement through service and volunteering.
Fresno State's Humanics Program is a certificate providing students specialized training in nonprofit leadership. The Humanics program works with hundreds of community benefit organizations in the region to prepare students and community members to strengthen and lead such agencies.
Campus Compact is a national coalition of more than 1,100 college and university presidents - representing some 6 million students - dedicated to promoting community service, civic engagement, and service-learning in higher education. Campus Compact’s initiatives help campuses deepen their engaged work by providing replicable models, training, advocacy, and resources designed to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of service, service-learning, and civic engagement programs.
The National Service-Learning Clearinghouse (NSLC) supports the service-learning community in higher education, kindergarten through grade twelve, community-based initiatives and tribal programs, as well as all others interested in strengthening schools and communities using service-learning techniques and methodologies.
Since 1961, the Peace Corps has shared with the world America's most precious resource – its people. Peace Corps Volunteers serve in 74 countries in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Central and South America, Europe, and the Middle East. Collaborating with local community members, Volunteers work in areas like education, youth outreach and community development, the environment, and information technology.
AmeriCorps VISTA is the national service program designed specifically to fight poverty. VISTA members commit to serve full-time for one year at a nonprofit organization or local government agency, working to fight illiteracy, improve health services, create businesses, strengthen community groups, and much more.
