A Message from the Department Chair, Dr. Andreas Stratemeyer
Welcome to the Department of Marketing and Logistics at Craig School of Business. I invite prospective students interested in B.S. in Business Administration, to give our exciting marketing options serious consideration. Our degree has been continuously accredited since 1959 by the premiere accrediting agency, AACSB - International, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. The B.S. in Business Administration degree was the third accredited business program in California, following UC Berkeley and UCLA.
In today's global business environment, there is no function more crucial or thrilling than marketing, which is a challenging, exciting, fast-paced, and dynamic business function. The rate of new product introduction has never been greater, as companies strive to maintain a competitive advantage. Marketers play a critical role in identifying new markets, and inventing creative approaches for pricing, promoting, and distributing goods and services to these markets. The key is creativity and a willingness to pursue risks and formulating and implementing effective marketing strategic plan. Marketing offers exceptional career opportunities.
The marketing profession is often a direct route to upper level management. Because marketing's prominence has risen over time, experts predict that marketers will dominate executive positions even more in the future. Starting salaries are relatively high in marketing, but vary greatly. The initial salary offered a candidate is largely a function of the position being filled and the attractiveness of the candidate. Some companies recruit students for their ultimate leadership capabilities, while other companies recruit to fill functional positions. Your marketing education provides a framework within which to take advantage of those opportunities.
Our Curriculum: Three Exciting Options
We provide our students with a broad intellectual foundation that stimulates rigorous thought, critical inquiry, and career centered knowledge, skills, and perspectives. Our three options: "Marketing", "Sports Marketing", and "Logistics and Supply Chain Strategies" are designed and continuously updated after all-embracing consultation with our Marketing Advisory Council (MAC) members who are business leaders, in various industries in the region. A high degree of interaction occurs in our classrooms since our curriculum has been, and is, designed by embracing "Experiential Learning Philosophy" and focusing on hands-on projects and in-class activities. Our students have also won numerous student organization national awards.
We are proud that our faculties have won numerous awards for excellence in teaching, research, and service at school, and university levels. Our faculties have engaged in research with the aim of continuous improvements. They have published numerous blind-refereed articles in leading national and international journals including: Journal for Advancement of Marketing Education, The Open Business Journal, Journal of Travel and Tourism Marketing, Journal of Hospitality Marketing & Management, Journal of Promotion Management, Marketing Management Journal, Academy of Marketing Strategies Journal, Academy of Educational Leadership Journal, International Journal on E-Learning. Journal of International Business Disciplines, Journal of Product and Brand Management, International Journal of Management, International Journal of Commerce and Management, and the Journal of Resource Management and Technology. Many of our faculty hold positions with national marketing societies. The majority of our faculty have held corporate positions prior to joing our team.
